Personal Accountability
I recently attended a local gala, as I make it a point to support as many community efforts as I can. I was offered an alcoholic beverage and politely declined. Someone asked why they never see me drink.
The answer is simple.
This June 2026 marks 22 years since I have had a drink of alcohol.
On June 6, 2004, at 9:38 PM, I made a reckless and dangerous decision to drive after consuming alcohol. I want to be perfectly clear — I take full, unconditional responsibility for my actions and their consequences. There is no excuse for what I did, and I have never blamed anyone else.
Driving under the influence was a selfish choice that put innocent lives, as well as my own, at risk. I am deeply remorseful for the shame I brought upon myself, my family, and my community. You never truly understand how many people are affected by your decisions until it is too late.
That night was a severe wake-up call.
Since then, I have taken significant and proactive steps to change my life and ensure it never happens again. By the grace of God, I was given a second chance — and I have tried every day since to be worthy of it.
For those who know me well, June 6th is a day of reflection and gratitude. It reminds me of how far accountability, humility, and commitment can take a person when they choose to do better.
If there is one thing I hope people take from my story, it is this:
Make the right choice. Don’t drink and drive, and don’t ride with someone who has been drinking.
If you ever need a safe ride — call me. I will be there.
